Cake Bling

We both want our wedding cake to be red velvet with cream cheese frosting. This is NON negotiable and all Craig cares about when it comes to the cake. I definately want a cake with ribbon, brooches and bling. The 'diamonds' on the cake layers is actually some kind of edible sugar. I also love the single strand of rhinestones near the ribbon on the cake on the bottom right.  When we're in NJ again, we'll meet with our baker and find out if the ribbon will be fondant or fabric and who supplies the brooches.  We'll also discuss the shapes of the layers. I really like the hexagon shapes of the cake on the top left. Definately want the ribbon in raspberry pink. BTW - the two pictures on the right were taken by my wedding photographer, John Arcara.

Our Cake

It was everything I imagined.  The ribbon used on the cake was the larger version of the same ribbon used on our wedding invitations.  My Mom found a trimmings store on the internet, but located in Manhattan, that sold the rhinestone trim for $1 a foot.  My Mom ordered 30 feet and my sister, who worked only a few blocks from the trim store, picked it up. Using a fast drying rhinestone and trim glue, she glued the rhinestone trim on each edge of the ribbon. Everyone was amazed when they heard she had done that, but she said it was actually one of the easiest DIY projects she did for the wedding. Interesting note: After the wedding, the venue put all the ribbon in a container for us. While we were on the honeymoon, my Mom decided to see if there was anyway to save the rhinestone trim, since the ribbon itself was pretty nasty from the buttercream frosting.  Apparently after days of sitting on the moist ribbon, it easily pulled off.

Cake Topper

We ordered the cake topper from Coutour Crystals. We choose a combination of two different styles. We will have clear crystals along the edges of a letter R, like the picture on the left, and a mix of fuschia and hyacinth on the inside, like the picture on the right.

And here it is.

Sorry I don't have a better picture, but it arrived in the mail only a few days before the wedding, so immediately put it in the 'things to go the venue' pile and never even thought of taking any pictures. My first thought when I opened the package is that is was too small.  I ordered the 6 inch, and it should didn't look that big in person. I really thought it would get lost on the cake, but it actually looked perfect. That said...I think we could have DIYed this ourselves for less money and more bling.

Cake Jewelry

We picked up these brooches in NYC for $20 for all four! We're probably only going to use three for the cake.

Cake Serving Set

For my bridal shower, my bridesmaids gave me the cake knife and server that match the flatware we picked and had it engraved with our monogram and wedding date.  For the wedding, we'll dress it up with some kind of bling that we can remove afterwards..

Found these hideous rings in NYC. While I wouldn't be caught dead wearing these, except maybe for Halloween, they make the perfect bling for the cake servers for the wedding.
